one of the proudest moments in my life, not just in schroeder: a couple approached me on main street, out of the blue, and told me that they had lost their virginity together, to this song. it was "their song". it was important to them. seriously. i was floored.

this song was originally called "FM" and was very uptempo. when nick joined the band he wrote an entirely new chord progression for my melody and lyrics. to say it made the song better would be a ridiculous understatement. it flat-out "made" the song.

this song mattered to people. some of my favorite moments happened while we played this at shows. people making out, the old couple slow dancing right in front of the stage at the khyber...great stuff. of course we also had a slamming "husker du" type version of this that we played live and that was pretty popular too. wish we had recorded that version. anyone with a soundboard recording of "hard blue", please send it along :)
